Imphal, Kohima and Dimapur Tour Overview

Imphal, Moerang, Moreh, Kohima & Dimapur

Imphal, Kohima and Dimapur Tour Itinerary

Day 1
After lunch, go for a guided tour of Imphal city which will cover the famous Women’s market, the Kangla fort, RCKS Art Gallery, the Pologround and the Second World War Cemeteries.
Day 2
This tour has as its main destination the breathtakingly beautiful Loktak Lake, the largest freshwater lake in North East India and Manipur’s top tourist destination. We can get a bird’s eye view of the lake from the Sendra Island. We stop en route at the Second World War battlefield of Red Hill where India Peace Memorial, the only Japanese Second World War memorial in India, is located. This tour also includes a visit to the Indian National Army (INA) Memorial Complex where men of the Indian National Army (INA) hoisted the Indian tricolor flag for the first time on the mainland. And finally, there is the Keibul Lamjao National Park; the world’s only floating national park and the sole home of the endangered Sangai, the brow antlered deer or the ‘dancing deer’.
Day 3
Want to experience the thrill of crossing over what is perhaps India’s most exciting and under-explored international border or of visiting the place where South Asia meets Southeast Asia? Then this is the tour for you. We take you to the border town of Moreh (110 km from Imphal) and cross over into Tamu in Burma (Myanmar) to see its bustling bazaar, friendly people and main Buddhist monastery. We top it all off with a delicious Burmese meal! As if that wasn’t enough, en route near Tengnoupal you enjoy stunning views from the road at 5,000 feet of the mountains that form the India-Burma border. En route we can see the Shenam Saddle where some of the most ferocious fighting of the WWII took place between the British and Japanese soldiers.
Day 4
Drive to Kohima after breakfast along the Imphal-Kohima Road. This road was in 1944 – and remains today – Manipur’s lifeline and main connection to the outside world. On the way to Kohima we will see a WWII era airfield, war memorial and battlefields and the Kohima WWII Museum. You can also stop at Kisama village to see the traditional houses of all the tribes in Nagaland.
Day 5
After breakfast, proceed for a guided tour of Kohima. Later, drive to Khonoma, the first green village in India. In the village, visit the Morungs, age group houses, forts and ceremonial gates. Drive to paddy cultivation areas and get to see how cultivation is done. Also get to see the rich megalithic tradition being practised by the people of Khonoma.
Day 6
After breakfast, drive to Dimapur – the commercial hub of Nagaland. You can see the ruins of the Kachari kingdom en route to your hotel. Rest of the day is free for leisure.
Day 7
After checking out, transfer to Dimapur Airport.
